We will have to go with the serious-Malaysian-examination-tone here.- To foster friendship among students, celebrate nationhood and encourage networking among Malaysians in Melbourne.
- To cater a platform in support of students’ talents and giving them the opportunity to enhance their skills in project planning.
- To provide the Malaysian community, particularly the Muslims, a familiar homely atmosphere to merrily celebrate Eid ul-Fitr (Hari Raya) as it falls during that period.
Background
Malam Gemilang started off ten years ago as a simple gathering among Malaysians in Melbourne. No one really knew the purpose other than the popular belief being ‘makan’. Surely, being Malaysians, the people who initiated this event just needed an excuse to gather all Malaysians under one roof. So that people of similar tastes, culture and that who can relate to each other from Sang Kancil-cartoons to memorizing-every-Sultan’s- names-for-Sejarah can simply have fun!
Over the years, Malam Gemilang goers have grown tremendously. In 2004, there were merely 110 people who attended but as of 2009, a total of 380 people were present! This is indeed a sign of evolution!(British Accent). Malam Gemilang has evolved into a yearly tradition among Malaysians who look forward to it as soon as the year begins.
This is your chance to dress up, be classy and elegant while ‘makan-ing’, gossiping, being entertained by your friends, as well as getting lucky. Not ‘that’ lucky, but lucky in terms of winning prizes which comes in the form of electronic gadgets & such.
Year after year, there are themes to further make Malam Gemilang stand out. See if for yourself in the event history section. This year though, we will be going for the 60s! Questions such as ‘nape?’, ‘why ah?’, and ‘serious?’ will be answered in the ‘60s Gemilang Enough’ section.
